Val McDermid Award to celebrate crime writing course success

Best-selling author Val McDermid has lent her name to a prize recognising the top student on a University of Dundee course for aspiring crime writers. The Val McDermid Award will be presented annually to the MLitt Crime Writing and Forensic Investigation student who produces the best dissertation as part of their course. The inaugural prize will be awarded at Dundee’s graduation ceremony in November. Neanderthals, genetic engineering and confession – Masters Show 2018

Visitors to this year’s Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design Masters Show will come face to face with Neanderthals, reflect on the morality of genetic engineering and – should they feel the need – confess their sins afterwards. Dundee students advocate for persecuted academics around the world

A group of Politics students at the University of Dundee have been praised for their work in advocating for the protection of academics around the world who have been the victims of violence and discrimination. Thirty students volunteered their time in the spring to support the work of Scholars at Risk, an NGO that protects threatened scholars and raises awareness about attacks on the international higher education community. Report explores ways of encouraging men into nursing

While nursing is increasingly viewed as a worthwhile and rewarding career for both men and women, the perception of nursing as an inherently female profession is still a barrier to more males entering nursing, according to a new report from researchers at Scottish universities. Causing a scene: student’s film to light up Dundee heritage site

A film depicting three generations of women working with jute is to be projected onto the exterior of Dundee’s Verdant Works museum as part of this year’s Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design Masters Show celebrations. The film forms part of Rosemary Taylor’s final project for her MFA Art Society & Publics course.
