Dundee academic honoured for `outstanding’ research
Dr James Chalmers, of the University of Dundee, has been awarded the Patrick Neill Medal by the Royal Society of Edinburgh for his outstanding research work on respiratory infections and his expertise in bronchiectasis. The Patrick Neill Medal is one of the RSE’s major prizes for early career researchers in Scotland. Dr Chalmers is a Discovery Fellow and Honorary Consultant Physician in the Division of Molecular and Clinical Medicine, part of the University’s School of Medicine. Top 10 ranking for Dundee in best value for money survey
The University of Dundee has ranked amongst the top 10 best value for money universities in the UK. Dundee achieved the ranking in Expert Market’s new study to find out which institution promises best value for money. It also received praise for its excellent employment prospects, combined with cheap living costs. The report looked at a range of variables including typical student outgoings, the cost of renting and employment prospects post-graduation. Science and Art collaborations to go on display
A ground breaking exhibition that combines science and art will go on display at the University of Dundee’s LifeSpace Gallery this week. ‘Future Emerging Art and Technology’ (FEAT) has been created from collaborations between six internationally acclaimed artists and scientists undertaking cutting-edge work on new technologies. The works explore gene regulation, quantum physics, underwater robotics, carbon capture, and exascale computing. Exhibition to travel back to Dundee’s formation
In 1967, Harold Wilson was trying to get Britain into the European common market and the Beatles said all we needed was love as war raged in Vietnam and the Middle East. It was also a momentous year for the City of Dundee. On August 1st 1967, the University of Dundee became an independent institution, paving the way to becoming a major economic driver for the city and a world leader in many areas of research. Colourful characters descend on Dundee for DeeCon
Superheroes, anime characters and video game stars will parade around the University of Dundee campus tomorrow ahead of the city’s largest annual geek-off, which takes place this weekend. Thousands of costumed characters are expected to descend upon Dundee this Saturday for a colourful display of ‘nerdiness’ at this year’s DeeCon, Dundee’s largest anime, animation and art convention.
