Artists come together to celebrate Dundee’s public art

The University of Dundee will next week bring the artists behind some of the city’s most popular pieces of public art together at an exhibition celebrating their work. ‘Art for All: The Pioneering Story of Public Art in Dundee’ explores the role that culture has played in the city’s regeneration over the past four decades and will come to the end of its run at the University’s Lamb Gallery on Saturday 26 October. Human rights defenders arrive in Dundee

Campaigners from Russia and Zambia have begun a three-month fellowship at the University of Dundee designed to support those at risk for their work in protecting human rights around the world. Konstantin Baranov and Laura Miti will spend a semester at the University as part of the Scottish Human Rights Defenders Fellowship initiative, combining study and research with the chance to build relationships and share expertise with human rights and equality organisations. Discovery raises hopes of one day preventing streptococci infections

Researchers at the University of Dundee have discovered an enzyme they believe could be key to preventing Group A Streptococcus infections that cause more than 500,000 deaths worldwide each year. Group A Streptococcus can lead to illnesses such as strep throat, scarlet fever, sepsis and toxic shock syndrome as well as several long-term autoimmune diseases with high mortality rates. Dundee academic among BBC `100 Women 2019’

Dr Sarah Martins da Silva, of the University of Dundee, has been named on BBC’s `100 Women 2019’ list of inspiring and influential women from around the world. The BBC list asks `What would the future look like if it were driven by women?’ and features such globally–recognised names as climate change activist Greta Thunberg and footballer Megan Rapinoe among many others.
