Independence Day brings a taste of Ghana to Scotland
Ghanaian students at the University of Dundee are getting ready to party as they prepare to celebrate their homeland’s Independence Day. The country’s vibrant flavours, fashions and sounds will come to life on campus when members of the University’s Ghanaian Society host a cultural showcase to mark the occasion. Dundee and Abertay to battle it out for Varsity
More than 600 athletes from the Universities of Dundee and Abertay will once again go head-to-head as they vie for the coveted Tay Varsity Challenge Trophy. The annual inter-university sporting contest, which takes place on Wednesday 13 March, is the biggest amateur sporting event in Dundee’s calendar and for the first time in 12 years will include Judo matches. Freedom fighter Diana Nammi heads to Dundee
Diana Nammi, whose career has taken her from fighting on the front lines as a teenage Peshmerga freedom fighter to being named the UK’s Woman of the Year in 2014, will share her life story next week at the University of Dundee. As she delivers the second Saturday Series lecture of 2019, Diana will discuss the personal circumstances and motivations for campaigning against violence, including honour-based killings, forced and child marriages and female genital mutilation. Smokers sought to shed light on infrared study
Smokers in Tayside could help scientists determine if infrared heat therapy could reduce the chances of developing cardiovascular diseases, by giving up one day of their time. Taking part in the study involves a one day visit to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee and participants will be reimbursed for taking part. The new trial, led by University of Dundee Masters student Gavin Pierpoint, seeks to study the benefits of infrared heat therapy, which involves the use of heaters that emit infrared light, which in turn is absorbed by the skin.
