Taking a bite out of bad dental habits

University of Dundee students helped local primary school pupils to brush up on their dental health on Friday. Toothy Tigers, a student-led educational initiative from the University’s School of Dentistry, visited St Paul’s RC Academy to highlight the importance of good oral health to around 200 P7 pupils from local cluster schools. The team of eight dental students demonstrated to pupils how to look after their teeth, showing them how to brush correctly and highlighting how sugary snacks and drinks can take a bite out of their pearly whites. If the UK’s tallest building was built on top of its tallest mountain then the resulting structure would still be dwarfed by a ‘tower of tablet’ that has raised more than £75,000 for breast cancer research at the University of Dundee. Fiona Edwards has been selling her homemade tablet at running events and through friends and family around Tayside and Fife since 2003 to support researchers at the University. Sport science conference to energise city economy

Cash registers throughout Dundee can expect a workout when the city’s two universities host a major sport and exercise science conference. More than £250,000 is expected to be generated for the local economy when the University of Dundee and Abertay University co-host the British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (BASES) annual student conference in April.
