‘Homecoming’ for much-loved tutor
A new exhibition opening at the University of Dundee this week pays tribute to the life and work of a renowned artist who helped hundreds of young people fulfil their ambition of studying art. Alan Watson, who died earlier this year at the age of 61, led the portfolio preparation class at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design for 20 years. Teena becomes first female Hammerman
A jewellery designer from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design will this week become the first woman to join the Hammerman Incorporation of Dundee since the organisation was founded almost 450 years ago. Teena Ramsay, Jewellery & Metal Design Programme Director at Duncan of Jordanstone, will swear the historic oath of allegiance to the Hammermen at their AGM on Thursday 19 September. Inter-microbial warfare may help overcome antimicrobial resistance
The University of Dundee’s Dr Sarah Coulthurst will lead a £2.7 million effort to investigate whether a ‘nanoweapon’ could be deployed in the global battle against antimicrobial resistance. The World Health Organisation recently ranked antimicrobial resistance as one of the ten biggest threats to global health. Don’t make major decisions on an empty stomach, research suggests
We all know that food shopping when hungry is a bad idea but new research from the University of Dundee suggests that people might want to avoid making any important decisions about the future on an empty stomach. The study, carried out by Dr Benjamin Vincent from the University’s Psychology department, found that hunger significantly altered people’s decision-making, making them impatient and more likely to settle for a small reward that arrives sooner than a larger one promised at a later date.
