Bronzed cigarette butts light up Masters Show
New life is being breathed into discarded cigarette butts for one of Scotland’s most exciting celebrations of art. Nick Brodie, a postgraduate student at the University of Dundee’s Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design, says that he wants to give ‘greater significance’ to life’s everyday moments by casting in bronze abandoned filter tips found on Dundee’s streets. Candidates beat international competition to land Deans roles
The University of Dundee has made several appointments to key leadership roles across the institution. New Deans have been appointed to head up the University’s School of Business, School of Medicine and Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design. Student’s party plans postponed for Alzheimer’s charity trek
A University of Dundee student will forgo his 21st birthday celebrations in order to raise funds for Alzheimer’s Research UK by walking the entire length of the Outer Hebrides alone. Curtis Large, who studies European Politics in Dundee, has chosen to swap a birthday bash for the breath-taking backdrop of the Western Isles this month as he plans to trek 173 miles for a cause close to his heart. Researchers make critical cell division discovery
Researchers at the University of Dundee have solved one of the mysteries of cell division, a discovery which may shed light on cancer development and one day help develop new drugs to treat the disease. Humans are made of approximately 37 trillion cells, all of which need to be constantly replaced with exact copies when they become old or damaged through an orderly process called cell division, or mitosis. History of Dundee’s public art showcased in exhibition
A new exhibition at the University of Dundee will explore the role that culture has played in the city’s regeneration over the past four decades. ‘Art for All: The Pioneering Story of Public Art in Dundee’, which opens at the Lamb Gallery in Tower Building on Friday 2 August, showcases some of the 500 sculptures, murals, paintings and other pieces of public art to be found across the city.
