University and Mozilla announce doctoral programme for ‘Healthier IoT’
The University of Dundee and Mozilla have launched a new and innovative PhD programme exploring how to build a more open, secure and trustworthy Internet of Things. The OpenDoTT (Open Design of Trusted Things) scheme will train technologists, designers, and researchers to create and advocate for safe connected products and is made possible by €1.5m in funding from the EU’s Horizon 2020 programme. ‘Brain Basics’ promises Halloween treat
Having captured hearts with an alternative Valentine’s Day event earlier this year, staff from the University of Dundee will move on to matters of the mind for Halloween. An animal brain dissection will be carried out by Claire Cunningham, Mortuary Technician at the Centre for Anatomy and Human Identification (CAHID), at The Vine Function Suite on Wednesday 31 October. ‘Most dangerous philosopher’ to deliver Dundee lecture
The man dubbed ‘the most dangerous philosopher in the West’ will next month visit the University of Dundee to talk about Samuel Beckett, terror, politics, persecution and everything in between. Slavoj Žižek will deliver his lecture at the University’s Dalhousie Building on Thursday 8 November. New exhibition explores Jamaica through the lens
Eye-catching photographs of Jamaica since the 1800s, including postcard-like scenes captured by Dundee company Valentine & Sons, will go on display at the University of Dundee this weekend. The Moving Jamaica: Scottish-Caribbean Connections and Local-Global Journeys exhibition contrasts photographs taken in the 19th Century with those taken by contemporary photographers, Varun Baker and Stephen McLaren. Mercury rising for Dundee space technology
Hardware developed in Dundee will this weekend embark on a seven-year, 48 million-mile mission to Mercury. When the BepiColombo mission to Mercury launches from Kourou, French Guiana on Saturday 20 October it will be equipped with SpaceWire, a computer network developed by University of Dundee and spin-out company STAR-Dundee that connects instruments, processors and other onboard systems.
