Student to develop new sign language for science

A University of Dundee student is taking matters into his own hands this summer as he develops new sign language for specialist biological terms currently missing from formal British Sign Language (BSL). Liam Mcmulkin, a second year Life Sciences student who has been deaf since birth, came up with the idea after becoming frustrated at the lack of complex scientific terms in BSL. Dundee to lead on evaluation of new model for supervision of midwives

The University of Dundee is to lead on evaluation of a new model of clinical supervision for midwives in Scotland which has been funded by the Scottish Government’s Chief Nursing Officer (CNO). Lord Naren Patel to step down as Chancellor

Lord Naren Patel has announced he is to stand down as Chancellor of the University of Dundee after 11 years in the post. Lord Patel was appointed Chancellor in April 2006.  The role is the most senior in the University and involves acting as its ceremonial head, presiding over Academic Ceremonies and acting as President of the Graduates’ Association. Professor Mike Ferguson appointed Wellcome Trust Deputy Chair of Governors

Professor Mike Ferguson, Regius Professor of Life Sciences at the University of Dundee, has been appointed Deputy Chair of the Board of Governors of the Wellcome Trust, one of the UK’s largest charities. Professor Ferguson, who will also continue his work at the University, takes up the post from January 2018. He is taking over from Professor Dame Kay Davies.
