Artist forms army to fight for freedom
A University of Dundee student has formed his own army to fight for individual liberty and freedom of speech. Senyn is one of more than 300 students exhibiting at this year’s Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design and Architecture Degree Show. Drawing on his experiences as a former member of the Officers’ Training Corps, he enlisted fellow artists in ‘Senyn Army’, an army aligned to values that its leader believes must be defended rather than to any particular country. Senyn’s Degree Show exhibit consists primarily of intricately sculpted replica firearms displaye...

New heights for Scottish weather station
Real-time weather conditions on one of Scotland’s top nature reserves are now being monitored thanks to a new collaboration between the National Trust for Scotland and the University of Dundee. Student’s car seat will stop dogs having ‘ruff’ ride
They may be man’s best friend but beloved pet pooches can become lethal projectiles when caught up in car accidents. However, an ingenious new system developed by a University of Dundee student could herald the beginning of safer doggy days out for all when it is unveiled at this year’s Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design and Architecture Degree Show. Minrui Jiao says that her prototype travel system ‘Out Dog’ will satisfy pampered Poodles and lanky Labradors alike, eliminating the threat of injury or death to both animal and human should their vehicle be involved in...

Andrew, a professor of breast imaging at Dundee Medical School, will hope his players hit the right notes when they take to the stage to raise funds for the unit, which provides palliative care for patients in the advanced stages of serious illness. An Honorary Consultant Radiologist with NHS Tayside, he will lead the orchestra for its third concert in as many years at St Pa...

Dundee student’s ‘Meta’ way of valuing data
The Cambridge Analytica scandal has focused the world’s attention on how personal data is utilised in modern society, but just how valuable is your own digital footprint? That is the question one University of Dundee student has attempted to answer after creating a device that places a price on the information stored on people’s mobile phones. ‘Meta’ is the brainchild of Product Design student Cameron Watt, who says he wants people to have a greater awareness of how their personal data is collected and used. The 21-year-old, from East Lothian, is encouraging visitors to this year...
