PICTURES study to create new platform to help tackle major health issues

A £4.4 million project led by the University of Dundee aims to turn a database of millions of clinical images into a powerful research tool to help tackle health conditions including lung cancer and dementia. Each year millions of clinical images such as X-rays, CT, MRI, ultrasound, nuclear medicine and retinal images are generated in the NHS in Scotland and stored in the national imaging database. A former Dundee landfill site will become home to a different kind of waste this month as an art installation constructed out of recycled materials goes on display. The structure designed by a University of Dundee student Nadine Audrey Franz aims to raise awareness of the urgent need for action on climate change. The deadly parasite Leishmania has been travelling the world for millions of years, catching flights between humans, dogs and other animals throughout history and causing an untold number of deaths. Rhino runner James ready for London Marathon

A University of Dundee student hopes to stampede to fundraising success this weekend as he runs the London Marathon dressed as a rhino. James Fleming, a third-year Biomedical Engineering student from Zimbabwe, will run the 26 mile-course in an eight-kilogram outfit to fundraise for the charity Save the Rhino on Sunday 28 April.
