New Designers Sainsbury’s Award for Daisy

A textile design graduate from the University of Dundee has been named the winner of a prestigious New Designers Award. Daisy Stott, who exhibited her work in last month’s Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design Degree Show, won the Sainsbury’s Home Award at the New Designers exhibition in London for her tableware collection `Foraged Findings’, inspired by edible plant and foodstuffs found throughout Scotland. New app to see life through the eyes of an African street child

A new app that puts you at the centre of a street child’s life in Africa has been launched by researchers from the University of Dundee. The team behind ‘Growing Up on the Streets’ have created an interactive story map that lets you see life through the eyes of street children and youth living in Accra, Ghana. Led by Professor Lorraine van Blerk from the University, Growing up on the Streets was a three-year project that ventured into the African cities of Accra, Bukavu and Harare to find out what life was like for these young people. Leg amputees wanted for improvement study

People who have had a leg amputated or have a birth defect and use a prosthetic fitting are being encouraged to take part in a University of Dundee study that aims to improve the lives of patients. Giulia Zedda, a PhD student in the Institute of Motion Analysis and Research in the University Medical School, is looking for people with a prosthetic leg fitting under the knee who are able to walk unaided. Her study will examine whether patients are using the best prosthesis to aid them. Eighteen students who exhibited at this year’s University of Dundee Art, Design and Architecture Degree Show have been selected for Scotland’s most prestigious showcases of emerging talent while another is in the running for a £20,000 prize. The hugely successful 2017 Degree Show attracted around 16,000 visitors over the course of its 10-day run last month. It will be a double celebration for the family of Jennifer and Victoria Livie as the twins collect their identical degrees this week.
