‘Gold standard’ recognition for Tayside Clinical Trials Unit

Tayside Clinical Trials Unit (TCTU) – a joint initiative between the University of Dundee and NHS Tayside – has been recognised for the 'gold standard' of its clinical research. The TCTU has retained full registration status by the UK Clinical Research Collaboration, the national body overseeing clinical trial units in this country. The legacy of Dundee’s artistic past is supporting outstanding students who are displaying their work at the University of Dundee’s Masters Show this week. Abi Baikie, Ruaridh Lever-Hogg and Darryl Gowans were this year’s recipients of bursaries from the William S. Phillips’ Fund which helps students of particular talent pursue a Master’s degree at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design. We can be heroes – comics feature at Masters Show for first time.

A new cohort of creative heroes are showcasing their work at this year’s University of Dundee Masters Show. Students from the MDes Comics and Graphic Novels course are exhibiting at the popular event for the first time. There is a wide variety of work on display, including comics about historical figures, trauma, the human spirit, science fiction and time travel. The course attracts students straight from their undergraduate degree, but also already established comic book creators. This year James O’Ready will be exhibiting his work. Nursing students work to save lives during earthquake scenario

A major earthquake has struck Dundee and Fife, and University of Dundee nursing students have been drafted in to help. Magdalen Green in Dundee and Beveridge Park in Kirkcaldy will be turned into major incident zones as part of annual resilience training for first-year students. They will be asked to react to the scenario that there has been an earthquake and they must act fast to help those in need. Over 180 students will be providing first aid and specialist care to a team of volunteers with the help of the 225 Medical Regiment Scotland. Dundee to lead the way in tackling lung disease after award

Respiratory researcher James Chalmers has been awarded the title of Professor and a £422,440 grant to conduct ground-breaking research into a common but neglected lung disease at the University of Dundee.
