Colourful characters descend on Dundee for DeeCon

Superheroes, anime characters and video game stars will parade around the University of Dundee campus tomorrow ahead of the city’s largest annual geek-off, which takes place this weekend.

Thousands of costumed characters are expected to descend upon Dundee this Saturday for a colourful display of ‘nerdiness’ at this year’s DeeCon, Dundee’s largest anime, animation and art convention. Organisers of the event will stage a dress rehearsal on Thursday, 6th April to promote the event.

Featuring exclusive anime screenings and industry talks by former Disney FX animators, the team behind DeeCon 2017 expect it to be the best yet.

Retro videogame tournaments, stalls, exhibitions, demonstrations and industry presentations will take place across Dundee University’s Students’ Association (DUSA), the University Chaplaincy Centre and Queen Mother Building at the University on Saturday, 8th April.

Margaret McCabe, organising committee member, said, “Dundee is the perfect place to be a geek and DeeCon is not short of attractions for the whole family to get into. This year we have invited major industry guests and we are so excited to see what they reveal to our fans.

"We are looking forward to bringing everyone together, where they can share their work, meet like-minded people and enjoy a fun-filled day. Proceeds will go towards Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design's animation degree show next month.”
