Businesses urged to support creative talent

The University of Dundee is once again inviting businesses to support some of the UK’s top young artists, designers and architects as they prepare for the biggest event of their careers to date.
The ‘Friends of the Show’ scheme helps ensure the Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design and Architecture Degree Show provides the best possible platform for graduating students. Packages range from £250-£1000 and come with a range of opportunities for Friends.
The Degree Show is one of the highlights of Dundee’s cultural calendar, attracting around 15,000 visitors annually and generating in excess of £1.5million for the local economy in the process. With the recently opened V&A Dundee bringing in visitors from far and wide, the 2019 Degree Show is expected to attract a more global audience than ever before.
By joining the scheme, Friends will provide invaluable backing to graduating artists, designers and architects as they launch their extraordinary creative talent on the national stage. Friends will also play a key part in helping to attract new visitors to Dundee’s vibrant cultural community.
Professor Jeanette Paul, Acting Dean of Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design, said, “The Degree Show is the culmination of four years hard work by graduates and brings to the public stage an exciting range of highly creative work.
“This exhibition is one of the highlights of the year for many people and attracts a huge number of visitors to the city of Dundee. It is an opportunity for students to exhibit their work to an audience including industry professionals, gallery owners, future employers as well as the general public. Painting, sculpture, film, textiles, jewellery, animation, illustration and product, interior, interaction and graphic design are just some of the exhibits on display so there is something to appeal to everyone
“In order to help them make the most of this opportunity we want to present to the global stage the best show possible for our students. Signing up as a Friend will enhance the quality and profile of the show and help our remarkable students. Degree Show provides a huge boost for local businesses and significant cultural cache for the city so we hope businesses and individuals back this initiative.”
This year’s Degree Show runs from 17-26 May, when Duncan of Jordanstone will once again be transformed into Scotland’s largest exhibition space.
Interested businesses can choose from three levels of support for the exhibition. The range of opportunities depend on whether supporters sign up as a Bronze (£250), Silver (£500) or Gold (£1000) Friend and include invitations to the Degree Show opening night, exclusive tours and events, materials to display in business windows and recognition on the exhibition website and in the catalogue.
