£1.13million study to discover if eye test can give early Alzheimer’s warning

Researchers at the University of Dundee will lead a £1.13million project to help establish if an eye test can be used to reveal the early stages of Alzheimer’s disease. A substantial body of evidence already suggests that changes to the tree-shaped patterns of veins and arteries in the eye can be linked to a number of diseases, such as stroke and cardiovascular disease. DUSA’s #sleepless60 raises more than £3000

A marathon effort by student radio presenters from the University of Dundee saw them sacrifice zzz’s in order to raise £££’s for Dundee’s Women’s Rape and Sexual Abuse Centre (WRASAC).  Megan Williams, Laura Glasgow, Jonathon West, Kevin Hart and Iain MacKinnon took on the mammoth task of completing 60 hours of continuous live internet radio broadcasting from Dundee University Students’ Association (DUSA) in aid of this year’s Raising and Giving (RAG) campaign. Scientists provide insight into cell biology mystery

  Scientists at the University of Dundee have solved an important part of the mystery about one of the most fundamental processes in cell biology. The process by which cells copy their own chromosomes and then make new cells is vital to all of life. Author “saved” by writing wins £10,000 Dundee International Book Prize

An English debut author, who says an evening class where she discovered a love of writing saved her from her itinerant and chaotic twenties, has been named as the winner of the 2014 Dundee International Book Prize. Amy Mason (32) received £10,000, the largest cash prize for an unpublished author in the UK, and a deal with Glasgow-based Cargo Publishing for her novel, ‘The Other Ida’. First Scottish solo exhibition by pioneering computer artist

The first solo exhibition in Scotland by William Latham, a pioneering figure of computer art in the UK since the 1980s, will open at Centrespace, Visual Research Centre, next week. ‘William Latham: Mutator 2’ features interactive video works, drawings and prints that explore and embody evolutionary processes, physical and virtual space.
