Dundee’s Wellgate Shopping Centre is to host the first pop-up shop focused on raising awareness of Scotland’s ticking health time bomb. For two days - 8th and 9th August - the Know Sugar Shop will open to test an idea that has the potential to change our nation’s relationship with sugar. Old Steeple provides birds eye view of buildings set to open doors
The organisers of one of Dundee’s biggest annual community celebrations will next week climb to the top of one of Dundee’s best-known landmarks for a panoramic view of the dozens of building set to open their doors to the public in September. Doors Open Days 2014 takes place on the weekend of 13th and 14th September. Scientific and cultural heritage heralded at conference
Dundee’s scientific and cultural contribution will be invoked at a major international conference held in the city this month. From Monday 11th to Friday, 15th August, the Scottish Word and Image Group (SWIG) at the University of Dundee will be hosting the Triennial Conference of the International Association of Word and Image Studies (IAWIS/AIERTI). ‘A Tale of Two Penguins’ – Café Science Summer Special on 6th August
The tale of two penguins that came to reside in Dundee will be told at a Café Science Summer Special event next week. The D’Arcy Thompson Zoology Museum at the University of Dundee holds two penguin specimens that each has extraordinary stories to tell, connecting Dundee’s whaling industry with pioneering Antarctic exploration. University to help mark centenary of WWI at major BBC event
The University of Dundee will be heavily represented when the BBC World War One At Home Tour reaches the city later this week. The BBC is working alongside the Great War Dundee (GWD) Partnership, Dundee City Council and Leisure & Culture Dundee to deliver a free, family friendly commemorative event at the City Square on Friday 1st and Saturday 2nd August.
