Ways in which technology can help nonspeaking people to interact with others and participate more fully in society will be explored by a University of Dundee lecturer next week. Prestigious Wolfson Research Merit Award for Professor Sue Black
Professor Sue Black, of the University of Dundee, has been appointed one of 28 new Royal Society Wolfson Research Merit Award holders. Jointly funded by the Wolfson Foundation and the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS), the scheme aims to provide universities with additional support to enable them to attract science talent from overseas and retain respected UK scientists of outstanding achievement and potential. ‘Rough Cut’ by Jamie Shovlin to be screened at Centrespace, Visual Research Centre
The debut screening in Scotland of ‘Rough Cut’, a film by artist Jamie Shovlin, will take place at Centrespace, part of the Visual Research Centre (VRC) based in Dundee Contemporary Arts, next week. The event is being hosted by the Cooper Gallery at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design (DJCAD), with the film being screened consecutively over two days to coincide with the opening of the DJCAD Degree Show 2014 and as part of the Ignite Dundee festival. ‘D'Arcy Thompson's on Growth and Form’ – major new exhibition in Leeds
The work of D’Arcy Thompson, Dundee’s first Professor of Biology whose work has inspired artists, scientist and philosophers among others, will be celebrated at an exhibition at the Henry Moore Institute in Leeds opening this month. The exhibition is a partnership with the University of Dundee’s D’Arcy Thompson Zoology Museum, from where most of the items being shown have been borrowed, and takes place from 14th May to 17th August. GoSHARE launches in Angus
Every day in Tayside around 7000 samples of blood are discarded after use. Now researchers are asking the public in Angus to help boost world-leading research into diseases such as cancer, diabetes and asthma by giving them access to that spare blood. The GoSHARE project launched by the University of Dundee, in partnership with NHS Tayside Blood Sciences, is pioneering an easy way for people to help the fight against disease.
