Consistency and support required to help achieve potential of neighbourhood policing
Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) have a vital role to play in keeping neighbourhoods safe and improving confidence in policing but need to be fully valued and supported by police forces in order for them to do so, according to a new report from the University of Dundee. Dr Megan O'Neill, a researcher in Scottish Institute of Policing Research based at Dundee, has compiled a report on the role and effectiveness of PCSOs having spent six months conducting research with Neighbourhood Policing Teams (NPTs) in the North of England. Women in Science Festival
The achievements of women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths will be celebrated at the Women In Science Festival 2014 this month. Women In Science 2014 will also highlight the many opportunities there are for women to pursue a career in science and related subjects. It is the only festival in the World to focus on celebrating women in science and this year will present a range of film screenings, exhibitions, talks and family fun days. International recognition for PAMIS
University of Dundee-based charity PAMIS has gained international recognition for its work on behalf of people with profound and multiple learning disabilities and their families. The organisation, which campaigns for greater provision of facilities for those who require personal assistance to use public conveniences, has received an Accessible Award from the global Zero Project organisation as an example of outstanding innovative practice. Life affirming day about death at Royal Society of Edinburgh
The Royal Society of Edinburgh, in partnership with the University of Dundee, is preparing to host a special day of free events and workshops aimed at encouraging people to prepare for their death. 'In Memoriam' takes place on Saturday 8 March and promises a life-affirming experience, which will explore through art, writing and discussion, the realities of dying and bereavement.
