`Sweet spot’ for treating diabetic patients with heart failure
Researchers at the University of Dundee have discovered a `sweet spot’ in the treatment of diabetes among patients with heart failure. Diabetes and heart disease are frequently seen together in patients and can be a lethal combination. To compound the problem, some anti-diabetic medications have been shown to worsen heart conditions like heart failure, a condition where the heart muscles become too weak to effectively pump blood around the body. Dundee’s artistic golden age explored in new publication
A new book exploring the history of art in Dundee will be launched at the University of Dundee next week. The lavishly illustrated ‘Independent & Individualist – Art in Dundee 1867-1924’ has been written by the University’s museum curator Matthew Jarron and explores in detail the period when Dundee was recognised as one of the major art centres of Britain. National award for Growing up on the Streets
Growing up on the Streets, a project that investigates the experiences of street children in Africa, has received a national award. It is co-led by Professor Lorraine van Blerk of the University of Dundee with colleagues Dr Wayne Shand (University of Manchester) and Patrick Shanahan (StreetInvest). An enzyme crucial to the process of DNA repair in our cells has been mapped in atomic detail by researchers at the University of Dundee, the UK’s top-rated University for Biological Sciences. The University of Dundee’s Bach Consort will perform works by the often-overlooked German composer Christoph Graupner this weekend. Until recently, Graupner’s major contribution to Western Classical Music was seen as being the fact that his employer refused him permission to take up a post in Leipzig thus allowing Johann Sebastian Bach to take the position.
