Community policing to be investigated after prestigious grant award
Researchers at the University of Dundee and Edinburgh Napier University have shared in 4.6million Euros funding to investigate best practice in community policing across the EU. Dr Megan O’Neill, from Dundee, and Edinburgh Napier’s Dr Liz Aston have been awarded 285,000 Euros to carry out work as part of the ‘Unity’ consortium looking at how to strengthen cooperation between law enforcement agencies and citizens via digital technology. Notions of ‘thingness’ to be explored during Cooper Gallery’s summer residency
Art and philosophy will come together to consider the concept of ‘thingness’ at this year’s Summer Residency at the University of Dundee’s Cooper Gallery. Artists Oliver Braid and Anouchka Oler and philosopher Jospeh Fletcher will take up residence at the gallery in Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design from Monday 6th to Friday 31st July. Kirsty Gunn wins major short story award
Kirsty Gunn, Professor of Creative Writing at the University of Dundee, has won the Edge Hill Short Story Prize 2015 for her collection ‘Infidelities’. Professor Gunn was one of six authors shortlisted for the prize, which was presented at a ceremony in London last night. Her collection includes stories about love, marriage, and beyond, and was praised by judges for its haunting imagery and the beauty of its style. Dundee sets high mark for graduate employment
The latest employability data from the Higher Education Statistics Agency shows that almost 95 per cent of graduates from the University of Dundee are in employment or further study in the year following their graduation. The figures released by HESA record graduate destinations for those who completed their studies in 2014. Professor Chris Whatley receives OBE
Chris Whatley, Professor of Scottish History and former Vice-Principal of the University of Dundee, today received an OBE at a ceremony at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh. Professor Whatley was awarded the OBE in the New Year’s Honours list for his services to Scottish history education. “I am delighted and it is great news for the University as well,” said Professor Whatley on the announcement of the OBE.
