Dundee iGEM team to develop forensic `toolkit’
A team of students from the University of Dundee are developing a forensic `toolkit’ that will allow investigators to determine the age of fingerprints, detect traces of steel on bone from stabbings, and produce a biosensitive spray that can reveal traces of bodily fluids at crime scenes. Graduate nominated for book award
Oliver Langmead, a graduate of the Creative Writing programme at the University of Dundee, has been shortlisted for The Guardian’s Not the Booker Prize 2015. His debut novel, Dark Star, is one of six books in contention for the award following a public vote on the best new texts of the past year. The judging panel will now pore over the shortlisted entries and decide on a winner of the prize. Chinese healthcare to benefit from expertise of Scottish partners
Clinical staff and managers from China’s leading alliance of healthcare companies are to receive support and training from two of Scotland’s most prominent universities. The University of Edinburgh and the University of Dundee – both of which provide world-class medical research and teaching – have signed an agreement with the Strategic Alliance for the Medical & Healthcare Industry of China (SAMHIC). 10,000 sign up to `Identify the Dead’
A free online course launched by the University of Dundee last month which allows participants to take the role of a forensic investigator at the heart of a Val McDermid mystery has already had 10,000 people sign up. `Identifying The Dead: forensic science and human identification’ is a MOOC, or massive open online course, where anyone can sign up to take the six-week course.
