Knighthood for University Principal
Professor Pete Downes, Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Dundee, has been knighted in the Queen’s Birthday Honours. Strathmore Trophy celebrates 20th anniversary
The 20th annual Strathmore Trophy challenge will take place at the University of Dundee next week when pupils from twenty schools across Scotland compete to show their computing prowess. The event, which takes place at the Queen Mother Building on Tuesday, 16th June from 10am, will see teams of four from the S1 age group compete against each other in a challenge set by staff at the University’s School of Computing. ‘Transmissions: Exploring the Microbial World’ – new exhibition at LifeSpace
Visitors to the newest exhibition at the University of Dundee’s LifeSpace gallery will be invited to consider the implications of human co-existence with microbial life, including resistance to antibiotic medicine. ‘Transmissions: Exploring the Microbial World’ opens at LifeSpace, College of Life Sciences, with a reception on Thursday, 11th June from 5-7pm. Researchers and public to explore what it means to be human at national humanities festival
Frankenstein author Mary Shelley’s formative experiences in Dundee will be revisited at the UK’s national festival of the humanities later this year. The University of Dundee will host ‘Mary Shelley’s Dundee: Re-animating a City’ as part of the Being Human 2015 festival. Eye imaging software could aid disease diagnosis, study suggests
Imaging technology that scans blood vessels in the eye could be used to help diagnose a wide range of diseases, according to a study carried out by the Universities of Edinburgh and Dundee. Researchers say software designed to assess the health of vessels in the retina could help scientists spot the early signs of heart disease, diabetes and dementia. Changes to the retina are often a sign of sickness elsewhere in the body.
