Major exhibition from Portuguese artist set for Cooper Gallery

Cooper Gallery at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design (DJCAD) will next month host the first major solo exhibition by Portuguese artist Hugo Canoilas to take place in Scotland. ‘Someone a long time ago, now.’ will be shown over two floors of the gallery from 6th March to 10th April. Collaged projections of paintings, photographs, drawings and writings will give visitors the rare chance to engage with the striking and complex images that Canoilas produces. University Graduation at Dasman Diabetes Institute

The University of Dundee has held its second graduation ceremony at the flagship Dasman Diabetes Institute in Kuwait City.  Graduation marked the successful achievements of over 50 postgraduate students, including the first Masters level graduates. The event marked the pinnacle of three years of hard work and dedication for the students and dignitaries from Kuwait and Scotland joined them to celebrate their achievements. Penny the Pig to encourage students not to flush money down the toilet

A pig on the pan will tomorrow be helping to make students at the University of Dundee aware of some of the ways they waste money. Penny the Pig, the Student Funding Unit mascot, will be manning a temporary and thankfully unused toilet at Dundee University Students’ Association (DUSA) from 11am-3pm. She will be encouraging students to think about the various ways they’ve wasted money, jot their experiences down and “flush” them down the toilet. New Writers Award for poet Lindsay

Poet Lindsay MacGregor, a recent graduate of the University of Dundee’s Writing Practice and Study course, has been named as one of the ten recipients of a Scottish Book Trust New Writers Award. The coveted awards, run by the Scottish Book Trust in association with Creative Scotland, provide unpublished writers with financial support to enable them to concentrate on developing their work, as well as professional guidance to help them move towards publication. Next generation of dementia scientists to focus on lifestyle factors

Scientists investigating the causes of dementia will study how lifestyle factors impact blood flow in the brain. The University of Dundee is one of four Scottish universities joining forces to study how diet, exercise and other factors affect the amount of blood that reaches brain tissue and how that may affect memory. Researchers say that a reduction in blood flow can impair memory and is one of the known early changes in Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.
