PopDundee is back – student creations on sale
Dundee shoppers will have the chance to buy work from some of the city’s brightest young creatives as students from the University of Dundee are bringing their popular pop up shop back. PopDundee will be opening up for the seventh time in its latest venue Door Below at Drouthy’s Bar and Restaurant on Monday 13th to Friday 17th June. The public will be able to purchase prints, jewellery, original artwork and illustrated books from the artists, which include recent graduates from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design. Dundee continues to lead the way in widening access
The number of students from the most deprived areas of Scotland taking up places at the University of Dundee has more than doubled in recent years. Figures from the university admissions body UCAS show that the number of students from the most-deprived 20 per cent (MD20) and 40 per cent (MD40) of areas matriculating at Dundee has risen sharply since 2010 and particularly since 2012. Across Scotland, the 1,215 18-year-old MD20 applicants taking a place at a Scottish university in 2015 represented a fall on the 1,305 figure the previous year. Student and academics compete for £150,000 in creation competition
Automatic bike gears, a website to help diabetes sufferers, and a style magazine have made it to the final of a top entrepreneurial competition, and they have all been developed at the University of Dundee. Staff members Dr Deborah Wake and Dr Laszlo Csetenyi, and student Alberto Negro have secured their places in the final 30 of the Converge Challenge. Student puts best foot forward in forensic experiment.
A final-year student at the University of Dundee has used his dissertation to find more ways to use footprints found at crime scenes. Fernando Bueno Neves wanted to find out if footprints could also be used to identify body movement as part of his dissertation for BMSc Applied Orthopaedic Technology, under the supervision of Professor Rami Abboud, Head of Department and Associate Dean.
