Four new RSE Fellows for University of Dundee

Chemical probe brings new insight into Parkinson’s disease
Pioneering chemical technology developed at the University of Dundee is giving scientists the clearest insight yet into crucial biochemical processes that are active in many diseases, including Parkinson’s disease. Dr Satpal Virdee, leader of the research team, said their findings could `revolutionise’ research capability. Group identifications affect likelihood of teenagers smoking, drinking and taking cannabis
Teenagers who interact positively with their family, school and friends are far less likely to smoke, binge drink and use cannabis than peers who fail to identify with these social groups, according to research from the University of Dundee. The research team, led by Psychology PhD student Kirsty Miller, surveyed more than 1000 high school pupils aged 13-17 from the Fife area. University to award Honorary Degree to Amanda Kopel
Dementia rights campaigner Amanda Kopel, wife of the late Dundee United legend Frank Kopel, is to receive an Honorary Degree from the University of Dundee. Mrs Kopel will receive the degree of Doctor of Laws (LLD) from the University during its Summer Graduation ceremonies in June in recognition of her campaign to obtain free personal care for those with dementia under the age of 65 in Scotland. Online art sales portal to host exhibition
A company formed by University of Dundee students to help young artists sell their work online is hosting its first physical exhibition. VisConn is a social enterprise founded by Jayne Thoms, Jean Lu, Ashling Larkin, Ingrida Suveizdyté and Vicky Stephen. The company provides an online platform from which University students can sell their artwork as well as showcase their portfolio, and charges a lower rate of commission than their competitors.
