Researchers work with BBC to help dementia patients enjoy conversation

Researchers from the Universities of Dundee and St Andrews have collaborated with the BBC to help people who live with dementia and their carers to have mutually enjoyable conversations. The broadcaster is exploring a number of ways its extensive archive can be used for the public good and asked Dundee’s Dr Norman Alm to assist them as a result of his extensive research into the benefits of reminiscence work. Cyclists from the University of Dundee community, including its Rector, the world-renowned adventurer, Mark Beaumont, will this week receive an award recognising the institution’s efforts to promote sustainable travel. Cycling Scotland will present the Cycle Friendly Campus Award on Friday, 3rd June. Professor Vicki Hanson elected President of Association for Computer Machinery

The University of Dundee’s Professor Vicki Hanson has been elected President of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), the world’s largest computing society. Professor Hanson is Chair of Inclusive Technologies at the University and her distinguished career has seen her research issues of inclusion for older adults and disabled people. New ice hockey scholarship student makes it a trio from Canada.

The University of Dundee has announced its new Dundee Stars ice hockey scholarship student. Justin Faryna from Alberta, Canada will start at the School of Business next semester to complete a fully funded place on the MSc Management programme. He was named player of the year for the Dundee Stars this season, and was also their top scorer. Justin will be added to a trio of Canadian players who have been sponsored by the University, with this season’s player Lou Dickenson from Ontario and 2014/15’s player Marc Cheverie from Nova Scotia.
