Dundee team to research potential cardiovascular disease treatment
A University of Dundee research team hopes to find a new treatment for cardiovascular disease by identifying and “switching off” harmful enzymes that can cause inflammation in the blood vessels. The researchers have identified a group of enzymes called SIK’s that reduce the production of chemicals which protect the blood vessels from inflammation. The team is hoping they can find a way of “switching off” these enzymes so the protective chemicals can do their job. University signs zero tolerance pledge on sexual harassment.

Dundee researchers receive over £2m to boost fight against antimicrobial resistance and diseases
Researchers at the University of Dundee, the UK’s leading university for biological sciences research, have been awarded millions of pounds of new project funding by the Wellcome Trust. The grants include two projects contributing to the fight against antimicrobial resistance, one of the major health problems facing the world today. The grants amount to over £2 million to researchers in the School of Life Sciences at Dundee. The University of Dundee and the James Hutton Institute are coming together in the name of ‘Plant Power’. They will be hosting an event on Saturday, May 21st at the University of Dundee’s Botanic Garden to highlight how fascinating plants are and how important they are to the past, present and future of humanity.
