Textile Student Leads Dundee’s Fashion Revolution
A University of Dundee student is calling on the people of Dundee to join the Fashion Revolution. Lucy Caster, a second year Textile Design student, was inspired by the film ‘True Cost’, a provocative documentary examining how the price of clothing has been constantly decreasing for decades, while the human and environmental costs have been rising. The film led her to contact organisers of the global Fashion Revolution. She is now one of over 60 Fashion Revolution Ambassadors worldwide, with Lucy representing Dundee. Novartis Medal and Prize for Professor Doreen Cantrell
Professor Doreen Cantrell, Wellcome Trust Principal Research Fellow and Dean of the School of Life Sciences at the University of Dundee, is to be awarded one of the UK’s most prestigious honours in biochemistry, the Novartis Medal and Prize. Olympians lend their weight to Iona’s curling study
Some of Scotland’s greatest curlers have lent their weight to a research project being carried out by a University of Dundee student. Iona Robertson, an Intercalated BMSc student studying Applied Orthopaedic Technology at the University’s TORT Centre, has been working with members of the Men’s British Curling Team from the 2014 Winter Olympics to examine the stresses placed on the knees of people playing the sport. Research to study decommissioning of subsea structures
Research that will support decommissioning by exploring approaches to the recovery of subsea structures is to be carried out by the University of Dundee on behalf of Xodus, with support from the Oil & Gas Innovation Centre (OGIC). Xodus is undertaking the project in order to develop analysis methods and design guidance for the removal of subsea structures used in the oil and gas industry. A visually stunning new exhibition at the University of Dundee features highlights from our extensive sculpture collections, including many pieces by former students at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design (DJCAD). `Sculptural’ includes free-standing and wall-based constructions as well as preparatory drawings, sketch-books and photographic documentation of sculptures that no longer exist.
