Leading German expert to talk on the Somme
A public lecture at the University of Dundee next week will explore the most devastating battle of the Great War from a German perspective. Benjamin Ziemann, Professor of Modern German History at the University of Sheffield will deliver the Great War Dundee (GWD) partnership’s Somme commemoration lecture on Saturday, July 2. The Battle of the Somme was the largest Western Front battle of the First World War, beginning on July 1, 1916 and ending 141 days later. Pioneering use of diabetic drug to treat heart disease
Researchers at the University of Dundee have launched a series of projects to determine whether a new class of anti-diabetes drugs could also be used to treat heart disease. Diabetes and heart disease are frequently seen together and can be a potentially lethal combination. Past and present anti-diabetic medications that lower blood sugar levels have been shown to improve some markers of cardiovascular disease, however there has yet to be conclusive evidence linking them to a reduction in rates of heart attacks and death. Dundee student to become Scotland’s oldest graduate
At 86 years-young, Alex Stewart will become Scotland’s oldest graduate, and possibly one with the most degrees when he graduates from the University of Dundee tomorrow. Alex, who left school at 14, did not return to education until the tender age of 65 when he enrolled on the University’s New Opportunities Course through Dundee College in 1995. Over the next decade, he attained five degrees including ones in Philosophy, American Studies and Town & Regional Planning. Graduation allows friends and family to remember beloved artist
Graduation is an emotional time for all involved but the University of Dundee’s ceremony on Wednesday afternoon will take on special significance for the family of the late Connor Craig. Connor, remembered as a modest, generous and inclusive conversationalist by his fellow students, tragically passed away in March at the age of only 23.
