New Writers Award for poet Lindsay

Poet Lindsay MacGregor, a recent graduate of the University of Dundee’s Writing Practice and Study course, has been named as one of the ten recipients of a Scottish Book Trust New Writers Award.

The coveted awards, run by the Scottish Book Trust in association with Creative Scotland, provide unpublished writers with financial support to enable them to concentrate on developing their work, as well as professional guidance to help them move towards publication.

Each recipient receives £2000 and a tailored package, including mentoring from writers and industry professionals.

Lindsay started writing poetry six years ago when she joined a writing group at Fife Maggie’s Centre. Since then she has studied short courses with the Open University, the Poetry School and Fire in the Head, before completing an MLitt in Writing Practice and Study at the University of Dundee in 2013.

Her poems have been published in a number of Scottish magazines and she is co-founder of Platform, a regular poetry and music night in the former stationmaster’s house at Ladybank. She also writes reviews regularly for DURA (Dundee University Review of the Arts).

“I’m delighted and flabbergasted to receive a New Writers Award – it’s such a fantastic opportunity to be able to focus on writing,” said Lindsay.

The Writing Practice and Study programme at Dundee was created and is directed by Professor Kirsty Gunn, an award winning international author whose work has been translated and published in a number of territories all over the world.
