Strathmore Trophy celebrates 20th anniversary

The 20th annual Strathmore Trophy challenge will take place at the University of Dundee next week when pupils from twenty schools across Scotland compete to show their computing prowess.

The event, which takes place at the Queen Mother Building on Tuesday, 16th June from 10am, will see teams of four from the S1 age group compete against each other in a challenge set by staff at the University’s School of Computing.

This year's topic will be announced on the day, but previous topics have included wearable computers, robot navigation and a digital time capsule.

Teams compete for the Strathmore Trophy which was donated for the competition by Mary, Dowager Countess of Strathmore, in 1996. Other prizes including tickets to see the Dundee Stars ice hockey side in action can also be won.

Organiser Dr Iain Murray from the School of Computing said, “We are delighted to welcome schools from across Scotland to our 20th Strathmore Trophy. We have a practical but fun task for the pupils to do, which will also let them bring out their creative side.”
