University honours newest graduates – 3000 miles away
The University of Dundee is celebrating the graduation of our latest round of successful students – in Kuwait. A ceremony in Kuwait has seen almost 50 new graduates handed their awards in Diabetes Care, Education and Management. The University has been delivering postgraduate education in Kuwait for five years, helping tackle the country’s chronic diabetes problem. It has been estimated that up to 1 in 4 of the adult population of Kuwait suffers from the disease, which equates to almost 700,000 people. Nine Trades to help ease path to University
An organisation that celebrates the legacy of bonnet makers, fleshers and weavers is to help aspiring scientists, designers and engineers fulfil their academic potential at the University of Dundee. The historic Nine Incorporated Trades of Dundee will provide financial support to help students who have missed out on higher education as a result of adversity. The organisation has pledged £27,000 to support bursaries for students on the University’s DUAL Access Summer School over the next three years. The money will fund 25 bursaries each year. Hairdresser raises money for vital cancer research
Hairdressers are always listening to their client’s problems, but Dundee stylist Kim Innes has had enough of hearing about one in particular. Kim, from Studio Hair Design in Broughty Ferry, was so tired of cancer affecting her clients that she decided to raise money for the University of Dundee’s Medical Oncology department. Dundee lecturers team up with CBBC to solve a mystery
Two University of Dundee Forensic Science lecturers will star in a new CBBC TV show. Dr Lucina Hackman and Dr Catriona Davies, from the Centre for Anatomy and Human Identification (CAHID), will feature in an episode of ‘All Over the Workplace’. The programme, which airs Wednesday, 8th February, aims to give children an insight into a range of careers open to them when they grow up. The show follows two young children, called Edwin and Leila, who will take on the role of Forensic Scientists under the guidance of Dr Hackman and Dr Davies. The Dundee International Book Prize 2017 to open for entries
The prestigious Dundee International Book Prize will open for unpublished authors to polish their manuscripts and stake their claim for £5,000 and a publishing deal with Freight Books. Submissions are being sought for the 2017 award from Monday, 30th January. The prize also offers a week of protected writing time in the City of Discovery as well as the coveted publishing contract and cash prize.
