Hairdresser raises money for vital cancer research

Hairdressers are always listening to their client’s problems, but Dundee stylist Kim Innes has had enough of hearing about one in particular.
Kim, from Studio Hair Design in Broughty Ferry, was so tired of cancer affecting her clients that she decided to raise money for the University of Dundee’s Medical Oncology department.
She set herself the challenge of taking the plunge into the cold, murky waters of Broughty Ferry at this year’s New Year’s Dook.
Thanks to the generosity of her friends, family and customers, Kim managed to raise £900 and even won the event’s annual fancy dress competition for her snow fairy costume.
Kim said, “Cancer is something that affects us all. I just wanted to give something back and to make a difference to how this terrible disease is treated in the future.
“I was overwhelmed at the amount of people who took the time to visit my JustGiving page and donate to this important cause.”
Professor Russell Petty, Chair of Medical Oncology at the University said, “Kim’s generous donation will help us to provide vital research activities to support clinical trials.
“Without people like Kim, we wouldn’t be able to continue our work.”
World Cancer Day takes place on Saturday, 4th February and aims to unite the world’s population in the fight against cancer.
