Lord Naren Patel to step down as Chancellor
Lord Naren Patel has announced he is to stand down as Chancellor of the University of Dundee after 11 years in the post. Lord Patel was appointed Chancellor in April 2006. The role is the most senior in the University and involves acting as its ceremonial head, presiding over Academic Ceremonies and acting as President of the Graduates’ Association. Over the years, among his other duties, Lord Patel has conferred degrees on thousands of students at the University’s graduation ceremonies and been an outstanding advocate for the University and its interests. Professor Mike Ferguson appointed Wellcome Trust Deputy Chair of Governors
Professor Mike Ferguson, Regius Professor of Life Sciences at the University of Dundee, has been appointed Deputy Chair of the Board of Governors of the Wellcome Trust, one of the UK’s largest charities. Professor Ferguson, who will also continue his work at the University, takes up the post from January 2018. He is taking over from Professor Dame Kay Davies. Girls in Print: Female Figures in British Comics
Girl power is the focus of a new exhibition at the University of Dundee which takes a look at how women have been portrayed in comic books. ‘Girls in Print’ is now on display in the Tower Building Foyer and showcases original artwork from a number of DC Thomson titles such as The Topper, Bunty and Twinkle. Miniature marvels under the microscope
Fruit flies, larvae, and flat-worms used by the University of Dundee in ground-breaking scientific research will be going under the microscope at Mills Observatory this week. Members of the public are invited to delve into the world of the microscopic marvels in biological sciences from 1- 3pm on Wednesday, 26th July.
