University of Dundee gets ready to welcome back its Alumni

Hundreds of graduates of the University of Dundee will return to the city from all over the world this weekend to join celebrations marking the University’s 50th anniversary. Former students, and their families from as far afield as Australia and the USA will be flooding back to the campus where many of them started their academic careers. The returning alumni will add to the buzz in the city on a weekend when the University’s annual Art, Design and Architecture Degree Show also opens. Dundee continues climb in Guardian University Guide

The University of Dundee has continued its climb in prestigious national league tables after being ranked 24th in the UK in the Guardian University Guide 2018, topping the table in Dentistry and Design & Crafts. This result represents a rise of four places on last year’s rankings, meaning Dundee has jumped 23 places since 2015. The University is now ranked 3rd in Scotland having overtaken Edinburgh and Heriot-Watt in this year’s Guardian table. Dundee pupils to get free colouring book to celebrate influential text

School pupils from throughout Dundee are to be given a free colouring book that celebrates the work of the University of Dundee’s first Professor of Biology. The book will mark 100 years since D’Arcy Thompson’s influential book, ‘On Growth and Form’, was published. Produced during his time at the University, it remains widely admired by biologists, anthropologists and architects. A mother’s touch may help to bond with unborn babies

Babies may be able to recognise their mother’s touch while still in the womb, helping them to bond even before birth, according to new research carried out at the University of Dundee. Researchers from the University’s Psychology department used 4D ultrasound videos to record the reaction of unborn children when different people touching their mother’s stomach during pregnancy. They found that babies were most likely to reach out and touch the wall of the uterus when their mother caressed her bump.
