Students face-off for Varsity
Around 600 sporting men and women from the Universities of Dundee and Abertay will once again go head to head next month when they compete for the Tay Varsity Challenge Trophy. Twenty-one sides will renew old rivalries on Wednesday 14 March when students from both Universities vie for the top spot in the 11th annual challenge. University entrepreneurs win £26,000 of funding
Nine members of the University of Dundee community won £26,000 of funding for their business ideas at the Venture 2018 competition last week. All the winners, and two runners-up, will receive a membership for Entrepreneurial Scotland and be offered a place to take part in Elevator’s summer business accelerator programme at the new Centre for Entrepreneurship. Professor Nicola Stanley-Wall elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh
Professor Nicola Stanley-Wall, of the University of Dundee, has been elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh (RSE). Professor Stanley-Wall is Head of the Division of Molecular Microbiology in the School of Life Sciences at the University. Her research is focused on using molecular biology to understand the signalling processes that control multicellular behaviour exhibited by single-celled bacteria. Award success for University projects
Two University of Dundee projects have taken top spots at this year’s Scottish Knowledge Exchange Awards. A project between Moock Environmental Solutions Ltd and the University to recycle print toner powder for new industry uses placed top in the Social and Environmental Award category. Meanwhile, a project at the European Lead Factory, led by scientists at the University’s School of Life Sciences, won the Multiparty Collaboration Award. Ingela Ihrman: We Thrive – new exhibition at Cooper Gallery
Hogweed, intestines, a giant otter giving birth and a toad doing gymnastics will all feature when the first UK solo exhibition of Swedish artist Ingela Ihrman opens at the University of Dundee’s Cooper Gallery next month. ‘We Thrive’ will launch with a preview evening and performance by the artist on Thursday 8 March.
