Award success for University projects

Two University of Dundee projects have taken top spots at this year’s Scottish Knowledge Exchange Awards.

A project between Moock Environmental Solutions Ltd and the University to recycle print toner powder for new industry uses placed top in the Social and Environmental Award category.

Meanwhile, a project at the European Lead Factory, led by scientists at the University’s School of Life Sciences, won the Multiparty Collaboration Award.

Dr Moray Newlands, who worked on the project with Moock Environmental Solutions said, “We are delighted to win a place amongst the best of the best and we have to thank Dr Laszlo Csetenyi who has really been instrumental in the relationship between the University and Moock Environmental Solutions.

“Our project has enormous benefits not least to the environment. Finding new ways to use recycled print toner in building, animal medicine and potentially waterproofing is a promising start for things to come.”

Dr Phil Jones, Director of the European Screening Centre at the European Lead Factory, said, “We are incredibly proud of our recognition of this award. The European Lead Factory is an entirely new kind of partnership, designed to promote innovation through in-depth collaboration, honest brokerage, and enhanced communication.

“It is vital that the European Lead Factory builds on this success and continues to make these contributions pushing current boundaries in the search for new medicines.”

The Scottish Knowledge Exchange Awards recognise the sharing of expertise and ideas between businesses and Universities, ran by Interface, the only organisation in the UK that works on behalf of all Universities and research institutions in Scotland to create these partnerships.
