Place Making Symposium

Symposium Place

Professions, place-making and the public: what next?

Friday 14th November 2014, 12-5pm

The Symposium will share learning and consider the developing nature of professional engagement with the public and the professions’ changing role in creating successful places

This is the fourth national event in a series of symposiums developed around the theme of ‘Place Making’ and run jointly with our partners and collaborators (Architecture Design Scotland, Academy of Urbanism, RTPI, RICS, Planning Aid for Scotland, CECHR, Homes for Scotland.. etc.).  We are expecting more than 100  experts from all disciplines across the UK including policy makers, developers, clients, architects and planners. There will also be participants from government, local authorities, industry, NGOs, voluntary Sector and academia.

The forthcoming event will explore the changing nature of professionals in place-making, specifically concentrating on their responsibilities towards civil society for the creation and maintenance of the ‘public good’ in the built environment – this is often referred to as the ‘sustainable place making/community’. The symposium will look at what is currently happening, what needs to be improved and what do we want to happen?

The event will involve presentation from key note speakers followed by group discussions.  The programme is multi-disciplinary and includes participants from architecture, urban design, planning, geography, engineering, economics, environmental science, health and property development.
