PhD students in the architecture and planning programs are housed within the Geddes Institute, which hosts their PhD seminar program. Current postgraduate research includes: the histories and theories of architecture, affordable and sustainable housing, wellbeing in the built environment, preservation, low energy design, sustainable planning, urban design, wayfinding, environmental assessment of buildings.

We encourage prospective PhD students to apply who are interested in permutations of:

  • architecture and planning
  • intellectual and social formations
  • the built and natural environments

using studio-based, text-based, survey-based, and numeric-based research methods.
