Town and Regional Planning were delighted to welcome planners from Scotland, England and Europe to an ISoCaRP (International Society of City and Regional Planners) workshop held in the university last week.  The workshop, on the theme of ‘The Realism of Implementation - Engagement of Local Resources’ explored the challenges which are being addressed in the process of renewal and recovery in Dundee.   Speakers included Pam Ewen, TAYplan Strategic Development Planning Manager and Allan Watt, Dundee Waterfront Manager, both key players involved in the city’s regeneration, as well as Barbara Illsley, from Town and Regional Planning and  Craig McLaren of the Royal Town Planning Institute. There was lively discussion around a number of questions such as how can planning provide greater certainty, how effective are planning policies at national and local levels in stimulating change, and what lessons can be learned from Dundee for other places in Scotland and beyond.
