‘The Gap of Time’ – celebrated author Jeanette Winterson to visit Dundee
Award-winning writer Jeanette Winterson will discuss her latest book, ‘The Gap of Time’, in a special event ahead of this year’s Dundee Literary Festival. The event takes place at the Dalhousie Building, Old Hawkhill, on Wednesday, 7th October and will also see the author talk about her glittering career, which began with the publication of the celebrated ‘Oranges Are Not The Only Fruit’ in 1985. Egyptian dental delegation visit Dundee to cement links
A delegation from Cairo University will next week visit Tayside to cement dental links with the University of Dundee. Dundee’s School of Dentistry recently launched an innovative international training programme for dentists in Egypt. In a new development, the University of Dundee is linking with Cairo, the oldest and most established university in Egypt to further develop the opportunities for dental training and research. University to play part in 'Remembering Loos'
University of Dundee historians Dr Billy Kenefick and Dr Derek Patrick will tomorrow play a leading role in commemorating the centenary of the Battle of Loos, known as Dundee’s Flodden due to the devastating impact of the city’s soldiers. The battle, which began on 25th September 1915, was the largest fought by the British army that year. CAHID reveal some of the mysteries of 9,000-year-old decapitation
The University of Dundee’s Centre for Anatomy and Human identification (CAHID) have helped archaeologists understand more about the oldest case of decapitation ever found in the New World. André Strauss from the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology was excavating the Lapa do Santo site in eastern Brazil when he struck upon a head buried under a rock. The rest of the skeleton never materialised but Strauss slowly uncovered the disembodied skull and hands, partially crushed as a result of being buried for thousands of years. Architects to draw upon 50 years of memories at reunion
A group of architects will return to their alma mater this Friday to celebrate the 50th anniversary of them starting their training. Members of the 1965 architecture intake will meet at the front steps of Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design at 12noon on Friday, 25th September.
