Dundee contributing to €50m programme to develop new antibiotic treatments for cystic fibrosis and bronchiectasis
The University of Dundee is contributing to a €50 million, Europe-wide, project to develop new drugs that could improve the lives of patients with cystic fibrosis and bronchiectasis. The iABC (inhaled Antibiotics in Bronchiectasis and Cystic Fibrosis) consortium, which is made up of world-leading lung specialists from across Europe, will develop new ‘inhaled antibiotics’ to alleviate the symptoms of chronic lung infection, the main cause of disease and death in patients with cystic fibrosis and bronchiectasis. Thousands of students arrive for Freshers Week 2015
The University of Dundee this week welcomes over 3000 new students from almost 90 countries for the new academic year. £2million Jacqui Wood Campaign draws to a close
The Ninewells Cancer Campaign, which has raised in excess of £20million to support cancer research and treatment in Dundee, is celebrating the successful conclusion of its latest fundraising drive. The Jacqui Wood Cancer Centre, on the University of Dundee Medical School campus at Ninewells Hospital, stands as tribute to the work done by Jacqui, who was Chairman of the Ninewells Cancer Campaign from its foundation in 1991 until her sad death in May 2011. Student athletes get set for season ahead
Around 300 University of Dundee athletes from 25 sports will this weekend return from the summer holiday early to begin a six-day training camp designed to get them in peak physical condition ahead of the new season. The Warm-Up Week runs from Saturday 5th until Thursday, 10th September and will see the students take part in sport-specific training sessions alongside a range of conditioning sessions and workshops on topics such as nutrition and lifestyle management. Droning on – University entrepreneur aims for world record
A University of Dundee-based entrepreneur is aiming to set a new world record by sending a drone on the longest ever hydrogen-powered flight for an unmanned aircraft. Trias Gkikopoulos, from Greece, is a researcher in Life Sciences at the University but he also has a passion for aviation and is a keen pilot as well as a designer of small aircraft.
