Leading creative thinkers strike gold at Undergraduate Awards
The University of Dundee’s Marianne White and Megan Falconer are among the winners of this year’s Undergraduate Awards, a competition that attracted more than 5000 entries from around the world. Marianne was the Overall Winner of the Nursing & Midwifery category, while Megan won the same award for Visual Arts & Design. Their success was announced last night and they will receive their awards at a ceremony in Dublin in November. Two medicines prove more effective than one for the initial treatment of high blood pressure
A team of researchers, including the University of Dundee’s Professor Tom MacDonald, have shown that starting treatment for hypertension with two medicines at the same time rather than one can significantly reduce blood pressure and may cut the subsequent risk of strokes and heart attacks. Fifty-year-old drug could revolutionise blood pressure treatment
A drug that has been used for over 50 years as a diuretic could revolutionise treatment of resistant hypertension, according to research published today in the Lancet. In as many as 10 per cent of patients with high blood pressure it is difficult to control blood pressure even when 3 or more drugs are used together. Traditional Chinese theatre comes to Dundee
The University of Dundee will this week give people in the city a rare chance to see traditional Chinese theatre forms live. ‘A Showcase of Chinese Opera , Music and Dance’, performed by the Shanghai Theatre Academy, takes place at the Whitehall Theatre on Friday, 25th September. The performance will be preceded by a public lecture on Chinese and Beijing Opera at the Dalhousie Building, Old Hawkhill, by Professor Ruru Li from the University of Leeds. Dundee is Scottish University of the Year
The University of Dundee has been named Scottish University of the Year in The Times & Sunday Times Good University Guide. Dundee’s success follows a sharp rise in its overall ranking in the Good University Guide’s league table, to be published in The Sunday Times this weekend (September 20th). The University rises eight places to 37th in the UK rankings and to fourth in Scotland.
