‘Concerning Dragons’ slays Tolkien fans
An animation created by postgraduate students at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design (DJCAD) telling the backstory of one of the characters in The Hobbit has proved a hit with fans across the globe. Eleven students on the MSc Animation & Visualisation programme recently worked on a project in which they explored the mysterious origins of the dragons of Middle Earth. The resulting video has been viewed almost 20,000 times in Vimeo and has earned praise from The Tolkein Society. Peter Randall-Page to give lecture and unveil sculpture
One of the UK’s foremost sculptors will next week deliver a public lecture about his work before unveiling a sculpture at the University of Dundee. Eight-foot feathers cause a flutter
A Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design (DJCAD) graduate and a current student have sees giant sculptures they designed to celebrate the history and return of sea eagles to East Scotland unveiled at Broughty Ferry. Ellen Brown and Katie Watt entered RSPB Scotland competitions to mark the reintroduction of the birds. They saw off the challenge of nearly 50 classmates to win the two competitions, with Ellen designing the eight-foot sculpture’s feathers to accompany Katie’s etched interpretation. Local experts out for World Asthma Day
Shoppers in Dundee city centre on May 6th – World Asthma Day - will have the chance to find out more about the internationally renowned research taking place in the city and get a free check on their own respiratory health. Staff from the Scottish Centre for Respiratory Research at the University of Dundee will be on the top floor of the Wellgate Centre from 10.30am tomorrow.
