The Scottish Design Summit 2014 – Design In Business

Representatives for some of the world’s biggest brands – including Rolls Royce, Spotify, Harris Tweed and Diageo – will gather in Dundee this month for the Scottish Design Summit 2014.

The inaugural Scottish Design Summit will focus on the huge potential in Scotland of a future design-led economy. Hosted by the University of Dundee’s Design in Action project, the summit will show that putting design at the heart of business can transform performance and results.

Speakers at the summit will include:

  • Stanley Wood, Lead Designer at Spotify
  • Richard Baker, Head of Supplier Engineering at Rolls Royce
  • Mark Hogarth, Creative Director of Harris Tweed Hebrides
  • Kerrin Lumsden, Design Manager for Reserve Brands at Diageo

“Design isn’t what happens to sell the product, nor is it the labelling and the fancy pictures. Design is how the product started and why it works,” said Professor Georgina Follett, Director of Design In Action.

“Successful companies of the future will be those that embrace design earlier in their development process. In short, design can help the Scottish economy achieve a new drive and focus.

“The Scottish Design Summit will show how some of our best known brands and businesses value design as an absolutely integral part of their success and how others can incorporate it into their own ventures.”

Among the questions posed for delegates will be:

  • What can design do to help transform your business performance?
  • How can design spark innovation in your people and interest from your customers?
  • What assistance is available if you are working with design for the first time?
  • What can design do for Scotland, our economy and all of our futures?

Design in Business : The Scottish Design Summit 2014 takes place on Thursday May 22nd in the Malmaison Hotel in Dundee.
