‘D'Arcy Thompson's on Growth and Form’ – major new exhibition in Leeds
The work of D’Arcy Thompson, Dundee’s first Professor of Biology whose work has inspired artists, scientist and philosophers among others, will be celebrated at an exhibition at the Henry Moore Institute in Leeds opening this month. The exhibition is a partnership with the University of Dundee’s D’Arcy Thompson Zoology Museum, from where most of the items being shown have been borrowed, and takes place from 14th May to 17th August. GoSHARE launches in Angus
Every day in Tayside around 7000 samples of blood are discarded after use. Now researchers are asking the public in Angus to help boost world-leading research into diseases such as cancer, diabetes and asthma by giving them access to that spare blood. The GoSHARE project launched by the University of Dundee, in partnership with NHS Tayside Blood Sciences, is pioneering an easy way for people to help the fight against disease. Lecturers see excellence and innovation rewarded at ceremony
The excellence and innovation displayed by University of Dundee lecturers has been recognised at the College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS) Teaching and Good Practice Awards for 2014. Dundee students scoop prestigious scholarships
Five University of Dundee students will each undertake month-long study tours in Florence after winning John Kinross Scholarships worth £2500 from the Royal Scottish Academy. Uist Corrigan, Abigail Dryburgh, Anna Hughes and Ellis O’Connor are all fourth year Fine Art students at Duncan of Jordanstone College Art and Design (DJCAD), while Benjamin Whitney is studying on the postgraduate MFA Art & Humanities programme operated jointly between DJCAD and the University’s School of Humanities. Study of DNA and datasets gives fresh insight into cancer
Researchers from the University of Dundee have used knowledge of an ancient evolutionary leap to reveal new patterns of DNA mutations in thousands of cancer patients and raise the possibility of developing new treatments.
