Local experts out for World Asthma Day

Shoppers in Dundee city centre on May 6th – World Asthma Day - will have the chance to find out more about the internationally renowned research taking place in the city and get a free check on their own respiratory health.

Staff from the Scottish Centre for Respiratory Research at the University of Dundee will be on the top floor of the Wellgate Centre from 10.30am tomorrow.

The public will get the chance to have their lung function measured and experienced respiratory research staff will be on hand to offer advice and support to asthma and COPD sufferers.

The Scottish Centre for Respiratory Research was formerly known as the Asthma and Allergy Research Group at the University.

Dr Brian Lipworth, head of the research group, said, “We feel our new name better reflects the nature of our research interests, as while we are still carrying out important research into upper airway allergy such as rhinitis (e.g. hayfever), we are more commonly looking at new treatments and diagnostic tests for common respiratory diseases like COPD and asthma.”

If you have asthma or COPD and would like to take part in a clinical trial, please contact The Scottish Centre for Respiratory Research on 01382 383902 or visit their website http://www.scrr.co.uk/ for more information.
