Lecturers see excellence and innovation rewarded at ceremony

The excellence and innovation displayed by University of Dundee lecturers has been recognised at the College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS) Teaching and Good Practice Awards for 2014.

Professor Trevor Harley, from the School of Psychology, won the Excellence in Teaching: Promoting Good Practice Award, while the School of Humanities’ Dr Daniel Cook received the Creative Teaching: Recognising Innovative Practice Award.

Barbara Illsley, of the School of the Environment, and Susan Buckman, from the School of Education, Social Work and Community Education, shared the Transformational Teaching: Creating Wider Impact Award.

All four lecturers emphasised their enthusiasm for extra-curricular activities and their collaborative practices enhancing the student experience. This award was nominated by colleagues and students in recognition of their achievement in excellence in learning and teaching.

Dr Carey Normand, Head of Learning and Teaching at CASS, said, “The annual CASS Teaching Awards event is always a joyous occasion and provides a creative space for staff and students to share excellent, innovative and transformative teaching practices.

“The winners delighted, captivated and inspired the audience by illustrating how they engage students in fun, deep and contextualised learning. They also illustrated the significant contribution they make to the College, University and the wider community. I would like to thank this year’s nominees for sharing the wonderful work that they are doing to improve the student learning experience.”

CASS is a major contributor to the success of the University and comprises seven Schools: Business; Education, Social Work and Community Education; Environment; Graduate School of Natural Resources Law, Policy and Management (in which is located the Centre for Water Law, Policy and Science); Humanities; Law; and Psychology.
