Staff and students encouraged to support Fairtrade Fortnight 2014
A series of events aimed at encouraging students, staff and visitors to embrace ethical shopping will be held at the University of Dundee in coming weeks. The start of this year's Fairtrade Fortnight will marked on Monday, 24th February when a Fairtrade chocolate fountain is unveiled at Dundee University Students Association (DUSA). Various types of fruit (all Fairtrade as well, of course) will be used for dipping in the fountain. Dundee research gets 'dissected' on BBC
World-leading research at the University of Dundee into motion analysis and the pressures it places on our bodies will get the 'Dissected' treatment on BBC4 this week. The BBC4 programme 'Dissected: The Incredible Human Foot' airs on Tuesday February 25th at 9pm. High potency statins linked to better outcome following a heart attack
A study looking at the data of thousands of patients who suffered heart attacks has suggested treatment with high-potency statins offers a significantly improved chance of survival compared to those taking normal statins. The study, led by the University of Dundee, also found a combination of statins and the drug ezetimibe showed no improved survival rate, although researchers caution this finding needs further testing. Sculptures unveiled in the Dalhousie Building
Image shows five of the statues in place at the Dalhousie Building. Seven wooden sculptures by acclaimed artist Doug Cocker have been unveiled in the Dalhousie Building at the University of Dundee. Entitled 'Horizons', the constructed sculptures were inspired by the landscape surrounding the artist's studio in Angus. The works were originally commissioned by pensions company Aegon in 2000 for their Edinburgh headquarters, but have now been gifted to the University. Dundee named partner in £2.8million oil and gas programme
The University of Dundee's Division of Civil Engineering has been named as an associate partner in a £2.8million project providing training for the next generation of oil and gas industry leaders. The University joins a consortium of seven core partners and 12 associate partners in the Natural Environmental Research Council (NERC) Centre for Doctoral Training in Oil & Gas programme.
